10 reasons every woman should try solo travel at least once!!

There’s something genuinely life-changing about booking a trip for yourself.

Not because you’re “finding yourself” on a mountain somewhere with no phone signal (although honestly, slay if that’s your vibe), but because solo female travel teaches you things about yourself that everyday life simply can’t.

confidence. independence. freedom.

And no, solo travel doesn’t have to mean backpacking completely alone with a 17kg backpack and a google maps breakdown in the middle of bangkok. for most women, especially first-time travellers, solo travel today looks more like:

  • joining girls group tours
  • meeting new people abroad
  • travelling safely with community
  • saying yes to experiences
  • proving to yourself you can actually do it

most of our gals and travellers come solo and leave with new best friends, confidence and about 4,000 camera roll memories they’ll never delete. so if you’ve been thinking about booking the trip, this is your sign.

1. It builds confidence

there’s a very specific kind of confidence that comes from landing in a country you’ve never been to before and realising:

“Oh… I can actually do this.”

Solo female travel forces you to trust yourself. you learn how to:

  • navigate unfamiliar places
  • make decisions independently
  • adapt when things don’t go to plan
  • stop waiting for reassurance from everyone else

And the confidence can follow you home too, change the way you see and interact with the world. a lot of women say their first solo trip changed:

  • their self-esteem
  • their social confidence
  • their relationships
  • even their careers

Because once you’ve island hopped through thailand or navigated the arrivals airport in costa rica with 3% battery, normal life feels way less intimidating.

2. you realise you don’t need to wait for anyone

This one is huge and one we wished we’d realised sooner!!!

So many women delay travel because:

  • friends can’t afford it
  • nobody can get the same time off
  • people back out last minute
  • they feel nervous going alone

But one of the best things about women travelling alone is realising you don’t actually need to wait for the perfect circumstances to experience life. If you keep waiting for everyone else's dates to match up, to decide on where and when, you’ll miss so many incredible opportunities. Book the trip. You won’t regret it.

3. you meet people faster than you ever would at home

Ironically, solo travel is one of the least lonely things you can do.

When everyone’s outside their normal routine, people are naturally more open to conversation, friendship and shared experiences!!! especially on girls group tours, it’s peak girl hood and everyone is there to make connections and deep friendships. one minute you’re strangers awkwardly introducing yourselves at the airport.

Three days later you’re:

  • Laughing at 3am hiking a volcano for sunrise
  • sharing skincare in the hostel mirror
  • hyping each other up for photos for the gram
  • planning future trips together

Travel friendships hit different because you experience everything together so intensely.

4. You can prioritise what you want, when you want.

There’s something about boarding a plane alone, arriving to the airport at the time you want (although always be 2 hours to be safe at least) exploring new places and choosing exactly where and when you want to do things that is incredibly empowering. It’s your life, your choices and your day is yours to spend as you please.

You become:

  • adventurous
  • independent
  • confident
  • spontaneous
  • capable

5. you learn more about yourself

travel strips away routine. no work stress. No expectations. No everyday stresses. suddenly you have space to actually think.

solo female travel helps you figure out:

  • what excites you
  • what drains you
  • what kind of people you enjoy being around
  • what actually makes you happy

A lot of gals come home from travelling feeling completely different in the best way!!!

6. you start saying yes more

One of the best things about travel is how much more open you become to experiences. at home, it’s easy to stay comfortable. but abroad? You suddenly find yourself:

  • jumping off boats
  • trying a surfing lesson
  • taking spontaneous trips
  • dancing with girls you just met a few days ago!!!
  • hiking mountains at sunrise

And every time you say yes to something scary, your world gets bigger.

7. It’s one of the best ways to make genuine friends

Adult friendships are hard sometimes. everyone’s busy. people move away. life gets complicated. but travel creates friendships naturally because you’re sharing real experiences together instead of just texting “we need to catch up soon” for six months straight.

at gals who travel, community is genuinely one of the biggest reasons women book with us. some gals come for the destination but usually leave talking about the friendships most.

8. you gain a completely new perspective on life

One of the most underrated things about solo travel is perspective. seeing different cultures and lifestyles changes how you think about:

  • happiness
  • success
  • balance
  • relationships
  • priorities

You realise there are so many ways to live. sometimes stepping outside your normal environment is exactly what helps you figure out what you want.

9. you create the kind of memories you’ll talk about forever

Nobody remembers the random week they stayed home scrolling TikTok.

But you do remember the orange sunsets you watched in greece, the days spent island hopping around the philippines, the feeling of the wind in your hair on the famous train ride in sri lanka, the nights you spent talking and watching fire shows in thailand and more importantly the evenings you spent with the girls under the sun.

Travel memories stay with you forever because they make you feel alive in a way everyday routine often doesn’t!!!

10. It’s empowering!!

Maybe it sounds a lil dramatic but it’s true!!! solo female travel can change the way you see yourself and the world. not because travel magically fixes everything, far far from it, but because it proves you’re capable of far more than you realised!!! and once you experience that freedom, confidence and independence for yourself you might feel a bit more confident at the end of the day!!

why group travel makes solo female travel so much easier

If travelling completely alone feels intimidating, girls group tours are honestly the perfect middle ground.

You still get:

  • independence
  • adventure
  • confidence-building experiences
  • freedom

but with:

  • community
  • safety
  • built-in friendships
  • organised travel plans
  • like-minded women around you

at gals who travel, most of our travellers come solo and join trips to destinations like: thailand, greece, costa rica, albania, sri lanka and the philippines!!! our trips are designed for women aged 18 -35ish wanting unforgettable experiences without feeling completely alone.
