the ultimate greece island hopping packing list for solo gals - the ultimate guide to packing for a greece euro summer <3

it's giving mamma mia!! greece is the ultimate euro summer. exploring the acropolis in athens, sunrise yoga on the moon-like rocks of sarakiniko beach in milos, wine tasting in santorini and a sunset cruise with a volcano hike and hot springs. pinch us!! we love this trip so much and so do our gals!!
when we were planning this trip, we went through so much gorgeous pinterest boards, search the hidden spots on tiktok and went back and forth looking at ferry schedules and surprisingly if you plan enough island hopping greece can be super easy and stress free!! (especially if you book a group trip, because you're literally dropped off at the ferry port and picked up and taken to your accommodation on the other side)
whether you're joining our greece island hopping trip or heading out solo, here's our honest, tested, guide on exactly what to bring!
3 things you MUST know before packing for greece
- pack light for the ferries: we hop from athens to milos and milos to santorini by ferry, so a smaller case or backpack you can carry on and off easily is SO much better.
- it's HOT in summer: june and july can easily hit 30Β°C+, so breathable linen and cotton are your besties!
- the acropolis and santorini's volcano are slippery: the marble at the acropolis is smooth and shiny, and the volcano is rocky, so you'll need proper trainers for both!
clothing: euro summer essentials
- 2-3x bikinis / swimsuits: you'll swim every day in milos and santorini! bring one old, dark-coloured swimsuit for the hot springs, as the minerals can stain.
- 2x linen sets or co-ords: the ultimate euro summer look for wandering plaka, milos villages and oia.
- 3 - 4x summer dresses: perfect for the welcome dinner, coastal dinners in milos and wine tasting in santorini!!
- 3 x shorts or skirts: easy, breezy and cute for days exploring.
- 3 x vest tops & tees: breathable basics to mix and match.
- 1x activewear set or comfy leggings: for sunrise yoga at sarakiniko beach.
- 1x light cardigan or shirt: ferry decks and boat cruises can get windy, and it's handy for covering shoulders at churches!
- 2 x sarongs / beach cover-ups: for beach-to-lunch and boat days.
footwear: what do you ACTUALLY wear?
- 1x comfy trainers: for the acropolis, the athens walking tour and the volcano hike in santorini.
- 1x flat sandals: your everyday shoe for exploring the islands and dinners.
- 1x flip-flops: for beaches, rocky swim spots and boat days.
DO NOT BRING: really high heels!! santorini and milos are full of steps and cobbles, and athens walking can be a little unsteady!!
toiletries & health essentials
- SPF 50+ sunscreen: the greek sun is strong and the white rocks in milos reflect it right back at you!
- after-sun: for after those long beach days.
- motion sickness tablets: ferries across the aegean can be choppy, especially when it's windy.
- electrolyte sachets: for hot days exploring athens.
- leave-in conditioner or hair oil: salt water and sun can dry your hair out fast!
electronics & travel essentials
- type C/F travel adapter: greece uses european two-round-pin plugs, so UK plugs won't fit.
- power bank: for ferry days and for days out and about exploring!!
- waterproof phone pouch: for the sunset cruise and swim spots if you want to take some piccies!!
- polarised sunglasses: essential for sarakiniko's bright white rocks.
- crossbody bag - we love a uniqlo number
- beach tote: for towels, snacks and suncream on island days.
greece packing FAQs
should i bring a suitcase or backpack to greece?
either works, but smaller is better! we're hopping on and off ferries between athens, milos and santorini, so a carry-on case or soft backpack makes life so much easier.
what should i wear in santorini?
flowy dresses, linen sets and flat sandals are perfect for exploring oia and fira. bring trainers and an old swimsuit for the volcano hike and hot springs on the sunset cruise!
do i need to cover up at churches in greece?
it's respectful to cover your shoulders and knees when entering churches and monasteries, so a light shirt or sarong in your bag is always handy.
what's the weather like in greece in june and july?
hot, sunny and dry, often 28β35Β°C. evenings on the islands can get breezy though, so pack a light layer for sunset!
